Anna and Franz lived in a small German town, loved each other and were going to get married. But Franz was sent to the frontline in France, where he, a 23-year-old violinist who loved Verlaine's poems, died. The war was over, Anna supports her elderly parents and visits the cemetery. One day she sees a stranger there who brought flowers to Franz's grave. He, Adrien, is a Frenchman, and therefore an enemy. But the meeting with him turns her life upside down.
